School Performances

Throughout the year all bands will take part in various school performances such as Assemblies, Open Day, Mother’s Day Breakfast, Father’s Day Breakfast, School Fete, Musicale, etc. These performances are a great opportunity for band members to experience performing in front of an audience and for parents to see/hear how their children are progressing. They also provide a showcase for the schools Band Program and expose all Roseville PS students to live music.

The dates for school performances are communicated to parents via email, and the school bulletin. Parents may be asked to assist with set up and pack up for these events.

External Performances

Each band also participates in a variety of external performances and competitions throughout the year such as the Sydney Eisteddfod, NSSWE Community Concerts, Australian School Band and Orchestra Festival (ASBOF), Chatswood Spring Festival, and more. These performances provide students with motivation to work towards a common goal as a team, as well as providing students with constructive feedback and the opportunity to listen to other school bands of a similar size and skill level.

Parents may be asked to assist with supervision and transportation of equipment to and from these events.

Band Camps, Tours, and Intensive Days

Band Camp is an annual event for members of the Intermediate and Senior bands and forms an integral part of the program. It is organised and managed by the Band Committee and relies heavily on volunteer support. Band Camp is 2 ½ days of intensive rehearsals and tutoring, as well as team bonding activities, which ends with a concert for family and friends . The learning and development that happens at Band Camp is invaluable, with students often achieving as much progress in 2 days as a whole term’s effort! Parents may be asked to assist with supervision and transportation of equipment to and from the camp.

Band Intensive Days are the equivalent of camp, but for Junior Band and the Extension Ensembles. They are held at school throughout the year (Junior Band usually holds one in Term 1 and in Term 3, whilst the Extension Ensembles organise Intensive Days as needed). Typically, an Intensive Day is held on a Sunday, with students engaging in rehearsals and tutorials, culminating in a mini-concert at the end of the day. Parents may be asked to assist with supervision duties on the day.

Band Tour is a special event that does not occur each year, but during years in which we have the funds and means to do so. During a typical Band Tour our Senior Band students will travel over 3-4 Days, performing at a variety of venues such as rural primary and secondary schools, retirement homes, indigenous communities, and more. Students will also engage in a variety of team building activities (various outdoor adventures, music workshops, etc.). Our Band Tours provide students with a valuable learning experience like no other.
